7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
Psalm 20:7 (NIV)
I don't know whether you are Disney fan, but I am. I absolutely love Disney, I'm actually quite obsessed with it to the point where even my oven gloves are Mickey Mouse's gloves. In recent years, I have enjoyed the resurgence of Disney animations as classic, must sees. One such film is 'Frozen'. I haven't had the chance to see 'Frozen 2' yet however I have seen reviews and heard the soundtrack, which in true Disney fashion, pulls on all the heartstrings. Sometimes, I enjoy being sat in a cinema theatre watching a film and out of nowhere, subtly a theme of faith is put across. As a child, I remember being lost in the magical worlds that lay in films and now as an adult, I love the escapism just as much, but I like to see the parallels to the reality we find ourselves in.
As we begin to start thinking about a new year, I feel that it is important to renew and refresh the foundations of my faith. One such foundation is trust in the Lord. Sometimes, it can be very to hard to trust in God and when what we see around us doesn't match what we think we believe, this is where our faith can be tested. But, you see when it comes to the Lord, seeing isn't believing. It may seem easier to trust in tangible things around you, but God's love is the only thing that can ever truly be counted on.
As we reflect on a year passed and the new year to come, it can feel like we are going into the unknown and this can be scary. It is in these moments of doubt and fear that the devil creeps in and we can shut God out. Much like, Queen Elsa in Frozen 2, we can busy ourselves with day-to-day tasks, kidding ourselves that we don't hear anything and shut out the calls from God. This is not what God wants us to do. He wants us to respond to Him, to live with Him, to do life with His son - Jesus. You see, much like the journey Elsa goes on, we need to go into the unknown, knowing that He is out there and ready to be a part of your life. Leading you to what He calls you to do. It is scary but by putting your trust in Him, He will guide you through the unknowns of life, until one day He calls you to your heavenly home. But in the meantime, will you trust in Him and go into the unknown?
Reflect today: What things do you trust in, in the world? Which of these things do you trust more than God? As we approach a new year, what can you do to replace that trust in the Lord and follow where He is leading?
Dear Lord,
It is not always easy to follow you. The cost of discipleship can be great, especially when you call us to do things I feel ill-equipped for. Please help us all as we approach the new year to place a new found trust in you and guide us to the things you have called us to, even when that means going into the unknown. Keep us safe, I pray.
Amen
