"6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them."

Luke 2:6-7 (NIV)

I don't know about you, but I never seem to have enough room. Living between university and home, you would think that I would have plenty of space but in reality it is the opposite. At university, the cellar is full, the kitchen is well used and the bedroom is at maximum capacity. Meanwhile, at home my bedroom is full. As soon as I come home for an extended period I just simply run our of space - I am truly blessed. But sometimes, I just wish the invisibility fairy would come and make everything disappear - just to have some space!

Sometimes our hearts can be like my bedroom - cluttered, over-full and quite frankly not have any space to even walk. When Mary and Joseph came to Bethlehem there was no space at the inn. So it would be, that the Saviour of the world would arrive with no pomp and circumstance, no fanfare but rather in the lowest of lows. A stable, an animals feeding trough. The way He came then, is the way He comes to you today. He has no fanfare, no guard of honour. He humbly comes and knocks on the door of your heart. He doesn't barge His way in. He doesn't force himself upon you. He simply asks: "Do you have room?"

Reflect today: Do you have room in your heart for Jesus? What things might you need to clear out, to give up and surrender to Him, so that He can come in to your heart?

Dear Lord,

In the busyness of life, the stresses and the strains, I pick things up and my heart becomes cluttered with things that are not you. I just ask today, that you help me to make room for you to be able to use my life to spread the glory of Christ.

Please come.

Please enter my heart today and everyday so that through me you will be glorified.

Amen
