"10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves."
Romans 12:10 (NIV)
So, today is the day we go to the polls for the fourth time in five years. In those five years we have gone from a nation that seemingly had pride, respect and stability to a nation of division, hurt, and pain. At times I wonder how this has happened, however it is important to remember that we can't change what has happened, only influence the future. If there is one thing that is clearer than ever - the world needs Christ. Beacons of light in a world of darkness.
We see around us a broken world, a world of hate, a world of deceit, and a world of injustice. If there has ever been a time for love - it is now. In the New Testament we see the greatest commandment. It isn't like other commandments. It isn't about what you shouldn't do. It is what you should do. It is a call to action. It's a doing word. Above all - Love.
So despite the political differences we may show today at the ballot box, we have to put love into practice without discrimination. So today, I encourage you to go and vote, use the freedom we have been granted, however when you leave the polling station, leave it at the door. You see, the Tories didn't come down at Christmas, the Lib Dems didn't come down and neither did Labour - Love came down at Christmas. Love which spans the generations, love which goes beyond any government, love which stands the test of time.
It is time, as Christians, to bring healing where we are. One relationship at a time. We are in the soul-saving business not the people-saving business. So, in the grand scheme of things does it matter which way someone voted? No. Does it matter if they know Christ and are saved? Yes.
Maybe instead of looking at what others are doing we should focus on Christ and live out the calling we have received.
Reflect today: Do you have the strength to pray for the leaders of our country, whoever is in power tomorrow? Maybe, pray for the leaders of our country. How can you encourage a relationship that is broken to heal? Maybe today reach out and begin to live out the love life.
Dear Lord,
We find ourselves at a crossroads yet again for the political future of the nation. I pray into that situation and hope in you that we can once again come together as a nation. I know we will have our differences and thank you for the passion people show. I ask that healing can take place. Please help me as I look to heal relationships in my life that are broken. Help me in all this I pray.
Amen
