"14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."

John 1:14 (NIV)

As a kid, I was a fearless defender of all things magical. I had no reason to doubt what I was being told. I didn't need to see with my own eyes because I had faith, trust and just believed. As I grew up and became more worldly wise I began to have doubts. The world can make us feel many things and try to prove us wrong at every turn. The same could be said for my faith in Christ. As I grew up, I struggled to keep believing especially when the world around me was telling me otherwise. Sometimes, I wish I could be a kid again and have faith without doubt, and whilst I know that is not possible, I sometimes have to remind myself - does it really matter? Take it back to the basics and keep it simple. Give it to God and 'just believe'.

Christmas Eve in the Barker household has always been a special time. One of the many traditions we have is watching the film "The Polar Express". In the film, we see the journey of a boy to believing in the magic of Christmas. The symbol for believing being able to hear the Reindeer's bell.

I wonder how many of us put barriers up to Christ? I wonder how many of us still believe in the Spirit of Christmas. Yes the gift giving - but also the real Spirit of Christmas - that of the Saviour coming to earth.

I wonder, can you still hear bell?

Reflect today: How can you let Christ show through your actions today? What things do you need to let go and 'just believe'? Is there anything you can do to take your belief into your world not just at Christmas and this advent season but everyday?

Dear Lord,

Sometimes things get in the way. Sometimes, I struggle to do things for you because I doubt. Please help me to put those doubts down and learn to sometimes 'just believe'. Help me to place all these things at your feet and spread your word not just at Christmas but in my everyday life.

Amen
